Here's how to prevent becoming a one-hit wonder.

1) Don't obsess with your song.
Tag Team made four versions of Whoomp! There It Is! A remix, "Whoomp! There It Went" and Addams Family. Needless to say, only the original was a hit.

In a show once, Billy Ray Cyrus performed Achy Breaky Heart three times. Once at the beginning, once at the end, and once in a medley.

2) Don't stray too far from the original.
Des'ree had a second single, "Crazy Maze" that had none of the qualities that made You Gotta Be a hit.

Owl City's second song, "Vanilla Twilight" is not as energetic as Fireflies, so he fell off the music radar.

3) KEEP MAKING MUSIC.
Singer Bobby McFerrin only released one single, Don't Worry Be Happy and then stopped releasing singles. As a result, McFerrin never had another hit.

Charlene left the business after her third single, and came into the business 5 years later, only to re-release two of her songs. One, I've Never Been To Me, was a hit, one was an even bigger flop the second time.

(Before anyone says I'm necroposting, it says topics older than 60 days can't be posted in. 60 days from June 25 would be August 24. Today is August 14.)

Some of these aren't ACTUALLY one hit wonders. These ones aren't are...

36- Bad Boys [Inner Circle] - "Bad Boys" was actually from 1987, and "Sweat (A La La La Long)" reached 16th place on the Billboard Hot 100. Top 40 are considered hits.
28- Flava In Ya Ear [Craig Mack] - "Get Down" hit 38th place on the charts.
27- Achy Breaky Heart [Billy Ray Cyrus] - 15 years later, he had a hit song with his daughter Miley, "Ready, Set, Don't Go" that reached 37th.
24- Feed The Tree [Belly] - Although it topped the Alternative Rock charts, this song never made the Hot 100. So, technichally, it isn't even a hit.
20- Good Vibrations [Marky Mark & Funky Bunch] - "Wildside" was also a hit, in fact, it made the Top 10 songs of the week at one point!
18- Unbelievable [EMF] - "Lies" hit #18 on the charts.
17- Informer [Snow] - "Girl I've Been Hurt" hit #19 on the charts.
16- Jump [Kris Kross] - They are far from one hit wonders. They had 3 more Top 20 hits.
12- The Humpty Dance [Digital Underground] - "Kiss You Back" hit Number 40 on the charts. One of their members had an extremely successful solo career, selling 75 million albums. That member was none other than Tupac Shakur.
7- Ice Ice Baby [Vanilla Ice] - "Play That Funky Music", a cover of a Wild Cherry song, hit Number 4.
3- Rico Suave [Gerardo] - "We Want The Funk", a cover of a Parliament song, reached 16th.
